WEST INDIAN PARADE 2007

The Annual West Indian Day Parade is the largest Parade in New York. Every Labor Day thousands of people flood Brooklyn to be a part of the energy, fashions and food at this parade. The floats may come along with a good deal of time in between them but the people don't stop. They live it up even in rain as we saw in 2003. The parade runs along Eastern Parkway and has steadily grown each year with diversity in the races and cultures attending the parade. Again, this is an event to come out early to because crowds swell and parking is very hard. The trains can even be a bigger head ache when the are rerouted to skip important stops along the parade. Unlike Manhattan parades there is not a lot of pushing and shoving crowds here, there is plenty of space to walk along the route. The parade actually ends on Labor Day but begins at the start of the weekend. The night before the parade on Sunday night is a bit crazy though. That is for young people and some say it used to be better than the parade yet I disagree and wasted a night going there once. Still you may try it but be warned that police are on alert and traffic barely moves. Getting a taxi was nearly impossible. The parade itself on Labor Day had crowds gathered before 6 am the news showed and starts to dissipate after 7 pm. Make your way here if you have not done so yet.
